Top Twenty Field Trial Dog 2009
Ely Mae came from Daryl Turner, of Sandar Dachshunds, out of Northern California in August of 2007. Daryl has been breeding miniature smooth and wire dachshunds for show and performance, for years. I told Daryl I wanted a puppy I could show but also Field Trial. Daryl told me he had a puppy that I might like. He described her as "full of herself " but that not all judges were going to like her, because of her coloring. I brought her home anyway and the rest shall I say, is history!
Ely Mae's first placement at a Field Trial was in October of 2007 at 4.5 months old. She then placed 1st in a large OAAB class (25 starters) in Vacaville, CA the following month. Her first conformation show was in December of 2007 where she went WB, BOW and BOV over specials for a 4 point major and on to a Group 4. In January of 2008, I entered her at the Greater Portland Dachshund Club specialty show, where she went WB and BOW for a 4 point major. The next day she went WB for a 3 point major. Two days later we flew to Ladonia, Texas for the 2008 DCA National Field Trials. Ely Mae went 1st in the OAAB class (29 starters) on the host day of the nationals, finishing her Field Trial Championship. She was just 8 months old.
Ely Mae's history making moment, came on March 8th of 2008, at the Seattle Kennel Club show in Seattle, Wa. Mr. Gary Doerge was the judge that day and picked Ely Mae for Winners Bitch. We went back in the ring and he pointed at her again for BOV over specials. That day she became a Dual Champion, at just 9 months of age, which is the youngest in AKC history.
Ely Mae earned her Junior Earthdog title in a two test / one day Earthdog Trial. She earned her Rally Novice title, placing two of the three times in large entries. Ely Mae has two Absolutes to her credit, and made the top twenty Field Trial dogs for 2009, only running a little over a half of the year. She is super sweet and is a joy to live with. She is up for anything I ask of her. Thank you Daryl Turner!
Ely Mae was bred in October of 2009 to ABS DC Sunrise Maximus V Ruger MW ROMX, owned by Dawn Renee Mack of Ruger Dachshunds. I spent a lot of time talking with Dawn Renee about what I wanted to hopefully achieve in a litter of puppies. I wanted puppies with darker pigment, more forechest, more of an almond shaped eye, and I really wanted voicing! We talked a lot about the stud dogs that she owned or had access to. I decided on "Maxiumus" to breed Ely to. I felt Maximus could offer what I needed to improve on. Ely Mae had four puppies on December 8th, 2009. Three red dapple wire girls and one B/T smooth boy. We kept two of the puppies and the other dapple girl "Annie" went to Rob's daughter.... "the two legged Ely Mae", in Dallas, Texas. The boy "Earl Jr." went to live in Texas too and is owned by Charlie Hairgrove and his wife. Both puppies are in performance homes and I look forward to their first Field Trials in Texas. All of the puppies have dark pigment, more of a correct shaped eye and more forechest. Misty Michelle at 5 months of age has voiced on deer scent "fahrtenlaut" and rabbit scent "spurlaut". We look forward to seeing if her siblings also voice in the field.
